Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?

Well, that's a good question. Finding the perfect therapist online can sometimes be difficult- just like browsing on Amazon to find the best product. You might wonder whether the therapist would judge you, or be "good" enough to solve your problem. Besides having a knowledgeable therapist, I believe the key to success in therapy is to have a safe environment with a non-judgemental therapist who provides full transparency, and.. a little bit of humor.

How do I know if I need therapy?

People often feel like they need therapy when they're stuck after trying their own ways to make themselves feel better. You wouldn't consider therapy if you are able to manage these feelings on your own, right? If you have persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, or stress, facing challenges in your relationships, or finding it difficult to cope with life changes, finding a therapist may be a good idea. Sometimes, there are also physiological/physical signs like difficulty sleeping at night, decreased/increased appetite, headache, etc.

What language shall I use in therapy?

The langauge that you are most comfortable with to express yourself.

Just like saying "a piece of cake" in another language or "easier than borrow fire (易過借火)" in english wouldn't make sense, right?

What should I expect from you?

A therapeutic environment that is compassionate, empathetic, and safe. I provide a non-judgemental space, and I commit to providing you with my 100% attention during our session. I keep clear communication with clients to make sure we are both on the same page, from company practice policies to treatment goals. I also like to use metaphors and a bit of humor in sessions.

Mother and Child

How often do I need to come to therapy?

In order for therapy to be effective, I usually start off with weekly sessions for new clients. The goal is for you to make progress, and as you make progress, I will reevaluate the process with you and decrease the frequency of sessions to bi-weekly or monthly. Ultimately, once you feel like you do not need me anymore, we can schedule a check-in whenever you need a "tune-up".

Why would you offer 15-minute free consultation?

It is very important to me that we are a good fit for one another before we decide to work together. In this 15-minute consultation, we will talk on the phone and learn more about what brings you to therapy. During the call, you'll also get a taste of what it would be like to work with me. I'll use this time to answer questions you might have and schedule our first session.
